i recently bent up my factory bumper and i have begun to play around with the idea of making a bumper and i have seen several made by people on this site but i was wondering what you normally make bumpers out of. is there any special type of steel that you bugs use?

if its a B2 then plate steel, cold rolled is probably the best choice, unless you're great with a bender dom tubing will look out of place and rectangular tube will be hard to follow the bodyline. plate steel will give you better lines but still be stout. I would say 3/16" thick for the main portion, and 1/4" for the frame mounts. one important fact to remember is the bumper is still only as strong as your weakest link in the setup....your frame...dont forget to use grade 8 hardware
