Dog owners - what dry food do you feed your dog?

My wife and I currently have a 7 year old lab/border collie mix (75% lab) and a 16 week old lab puppy. We are currently feeding both dogs Canidae all life stages dog food (this is what the older one has been on for years). I started the older dog on this food 6 years ago at the recommendation of our trainer but I've recently learned that this food isn't as good as it once was. So, we are looking at switching both dogs to something else. Anyone have any suggestions? There are so many foods on the market today it seems almost impossible to make a decision, so please let me know what you feed your dog and why.

X2...this is the only food that I know of that isn't extruded. Do some reading and you'll find that extrusion isn't good. It costs more than just about anything else, but you can feed them less because they easily absorb it due to being baked.

My dogs were on diamond (which was OK), then the Kirkland food. The Kirkland food is shit - don't care what anyone else says. My dogs were shitting CONSTANTLY on that food. At 2AM I was getting woke up because they had to go out...

They've been on Flint River Ranch for about 3 months now - their bowel movements are entirely regulated, and they actually want to eat the food. Their coats look better, and their skin doesn't seem as dry either.

We have a 10-12 year old chocolate lab that started getting ear infections in the last two years. We had been using Science Diet, but moved Taste of the Wild from TSC. It's supposed to be grain free, and the vet thought it might help.

I can't remember what it costs, but it's only a bit more than the Science Diet we had been using.

The dog loves it. I can't work with her in the garage anymore because she spends the entire time wanting to get into the food container. It drives me nuts. We give her 2 cups in the morning and 2 at night, but I swear she'd eat a bag in the morning, one for lunch, and 2 for dinner.

Looks like Blue Buffalo is available at TSC, too. We just bought a bag, so I'll have to try and remember for next time.

Pro Plan for my two adult Husky's. I've been happy with it for years but over the last few months my one dog has developed a really bad skin allergy and my interweb research is pointing to a lack of zinc. I'm taking her to the vet next week and expect to hear to change her diet, but does anyone know of a zinc suppliment for dogs?

Where is she itching? Our vet has our dog on three allergy meds. One is a suppliment they take that helps their skin. It is almost like a fish oil suppliment, only it has extra stuff in it for dogs with allergies. She has been on this and the other suppliment for about two weeks and her shedding has reduced significantly.
Our dog has both seasonal and food allergies.

Purina Dog Chow Complete and Balanced
I mix in a package Purina Moist and Meaty with each dish of dry food.

We used to use nutro but got tired of it being recalled every year since 08? And worrying if our dogs were gonna get sick. We switched to blue and all is good.

Here is the big question. Does anyone know were to get this food cheaper. We pay 53 ish for 30 lbs. I just got a 5 dollar off coupon from the manufacter.

Try to find a place that runs a buy 10, get one free deal. I pay around $53 for the 30lb bag but get a free bag for every $10 that I buy, works out to about $48/bag in the long run. I buy it from a local place, they're a few bucks more per bag but I feel good supporting them and long term it ends up equaling roughly the same as I could get it from a place like PetSmart, which I despise.

Nice to see blue buffalo and TOTW being mentioned in this thread. They were two foods I was considering. I was also looking at Acana and the grain free Canidae. It looks like I'll have to do some price investigation and see which foods I can get the best deal on since I'm going to be feeding two big dogs.

Thanks for all your input.

Kirkland(costco) for the last several years. Iam and Eukanuba many years ago. They've transistioned from the Kirkland adult dog food, to the mature dog food now.

*shrug*

They are healthy, seems to be fine with their systems (some of the lamb and rice from other brands have caused shedding, at least several years ago. Usually poo once a day (funny how much your life revolves around bathroom functions with 3 young kids and 3 dogs...).

My beagles are 14yrs, 14yrs, and 10 yrs old, in good health and activity level, no weight issues, etc. So it works for us.

Use to feed our dog Iams but it started giving him the runs. I think its a purina or pedigree food he is on now that the vet recommended for him. He has an endless food dish and just eats what he wants too. The bad thing is sometimes he will get hungry late at night and then want out.
