Best diesel 3/4 ton truck of the BIG 3

Well since jeepinlunatic had a HUGE argument about this last night !

Opinions welcome too !
Personally i like the GM truck overall the best ! cept for the IFS and cheap plastic snap together dash !
But i still feel their truck's are the most comfortable.. And i've heard nothing but good about the Durmax/Allison Trans combo !

A Ford SuperDuty with a Cummins in it backed up with an Alision trans would be a nice combo.

That used to me my choice also, til we just blew an Allison at 89k behind a 8100. So now its a Ford w/Cummins, and Dodge auto. At least when that tranny goes, it doesnt cost $4400 for a new one.

I have a 1999 dodge cummins auto 2500 4x4
since new...

I love it, did have to have the trans redone at 78,000 but with the triple loc comverter now in it, it is awesome.

If you throw a chip/power programmer in a DURAMAX it does like 12.9's in the quarter mile and thats just freakin sweet.
not to mention it can tow just about anything there is .

what is the heaviest load you will be pulling. if it is only one, maybe two vehicles at once, you will not notice enough of a difference when pulling. if you are a chevy guy, thats what yur gonna buy, so why ask.

not nessacarily bosch.. i'm not really biast towards one any more.. but this will be my DD as well and i want to be comfortable to drive and GM truck are the only ones to provide that thus far... but its sounding to me like Cummins is the way to go.. i guess now it's just up to budget once i sell my current DD

Well I really like my SuperDuty Powerstroke 01 with superchip programmer and auto. But for towing power I really the cummins with the six speed. That thing will put you back in the seat even with 10,000 pounds behind you.

IMO you cant beat the ride quality of GM IFS. No question about it. Flame away but tow trucks dont go anywhere you need "flex". Also no Ujoints to bother about. I also find the seating and general layout to be more comfortable.

Unfortunately GM also builds the friggin ugliest POS out there.

Ferd supposedly has the best trans out there now with the torqshift. The new towhaul mode is badass. Check all the big RV boards for testaments.

I dont know much about the dodge except that I like the way they look and they have probly the best engine/manual trans combo.

WTH is with all this slushbox talk anyhow

I am gonna have to SERIOUSLY disagree with this comment. I have taken my CTD and GN into places that would qualify as cool trails in Michigan. Not many off-road parks have 80' wide paved entrance roads to drive down that I know of. Anyone that has been to the Forbidden Zone can verify this. I had to unload the Jeeps just to get the truck and trailer up that "road" to get to the campground.

Lol, I'd like to see this.... a stock duramax 3/4 ton with nothing by a programmer into the 12s?

I've never been let down by a CTD. I used to pull a 26,000 lb tub grinder with one, in a commercial dodge 1-ton.

Agreed. I drug a 20,000 pound trailer and load back from TX and had no complaints at all with my Cummins. A 6-shooter would have been nice though.

They all have their problems . I've only been working on diesels for 23 years in the fire dept. Buy what you like and have the money for. If they made the perfect diesel, I would be driving it! But I'll take my Harley Davidson Ford Stroked for now! I would get in to all the problems with ALL of them, but I'm to d*m grumpy right now!
