Ok, so i have an opportunity to buy an 80's nighthawk, either 550 or 750 from a buddy on thwe way cheap.
On the other hand, i have been finding lots on cragslist for sub 1000 in the 60's 70's and early 80's. Bikes like a 550(?) 77 HONDA cl (REALLY LIKE that kind of bike). Different enduro type and road type 250's, 350's etc. CL's DT's that type.
Anyhow, what are the pro's con's fo vintage bikes? are bikes really much more reliable in the 80's? I like the look of vintage bikes, and call me stupid, but i really want something with a kick start (have since i was 8 years old watchin indiana joines for some reason, liked the older looking bikes)
Anyhow, my question is function not form unfortionately. Is it better in the long run to buy the newest bike possible? Price in the end will likely be similar. Both of the nighthawks need a bit here and there to get them on the road.
I got some advice in my DT250 thread on good 'starter' bikes, but any more would be appreciated. Buddy wants me to drive the 750,but for what i want (short trips to school/store and good mileage), i think that is too much bike (plus my current skill level with bikes... beginner). But i suppose the newer bike (4 stroke) will get the same mileage as the older bikes. Just seems like a lot of cylinders and carbs for an around town bike.
Thanks
Cliffs notes: I don't know much about bikes, and it is purchase time in the next couple of weeks since i sold my jeep (hopefully tonight he comes to get it)
