timing set

Following the dieseling I reported about last week, I reset my timing according to the service manual. This is an ECM controlled TBI Chevy 350. I unplugged the tan and black wire from the computer and found the timing was advanced about 16 degrees past 0. I set the timing to 0, then replugged the wire. Now the computer adjusts the timing and I find the mark is like 30 degrees advanced of 0. It seems to run ok, but it seems odd that the computer would adjust the timing that far advance at idle (cold engine). Does this seem odd to any mechanics out there?

the timming is pushed out by the computor till it hears the "ping" then it backs off just a degree or two. then when you step down down on it and get the "ping" it adjust accordingly. and yes the advance can be as much as 37 BTC . the base setting is Zero just the way you did it.

Cool. Thanks Yetti. KillerB said that my Comp Cam might need to be set even further advanced that Zero. It is a mild Cam, but I can't imagine I'd want the computer adjusting it even further than 30 degree.

It's not abnormal for that much adavnce from the computer.. the 350 TBI in my i set to a base of about 15-20 and the computer pushes it up past 40...
