Grooved my swampers *pics*

Well, I was a little bored after work one night last week....decided to groove the tires on the cruiser....

Here is the groover I used. Bought it last year, $65 on ebay or something like that....

Had to use the halogen lamp to help heat up the tire before grooving it.

front tire done

both tires done

Here are all the shavings from all 4 tires. It is about 3-4lbs worth

pic from the next day

Cool.

How long did it take to do this?

Once you've had a chance to try them out, report back on if you notice anything on the performance.

it took about 2 hours to do all 4 tires.

I ran them this weekend at the badlands, i would say that they definatly work better now.

Cool....

I've got the same tires on my Toy that I'm building, so I think this will be something to do over the winter....

it works good if you let it heat up and stay hot. Also helps if the rubber is warm.

This groover is good for moderate use, using it everyday would probably suck.

Brian, thanks for posting these pics. My buddy just put a set of 35" Sx's on his Blazer. I was telling him we should groove them, but he wanted to see what the look like. Thanks

I have a groover similar to that one that i bought new last year. I still havent grooved my boggers yet. A friend used it to cut the wear bars out of a set of worn out SX's and it looked like it worked pretty well. Actually his GF did 3 of the tires her self.
I am gonna try to get mine grooved before i take it out again.

If you look at certain tire prints, they are mainly designed for forward motion. The problem is, flat lugs that aren't geared towards right/left tend to have alot of "trail slide".. Meaning, they work great going forward, but have a tendency to fall down slopes..

If you are going in one direction, on a side incline, boggers will not hold the trail very well.

Cutting grooves helps this

Plus, a flat lug does nothing.. For every extra groove you have, it is more grip on the trail

they commonly refer to what CC discribes as "latteral sability".

I kind of followed a couple of patterns I have seen ppl use in the past on there TSL's. I wanted to split the center lugs to get the tire a little more bite.

Plus what Brian has done to his center lugs will help them flex and conform more to rocks and trail obsticles.

That looks really good and helpful, any change in noise on the road and at high speeds?

There was a slight whistle

The biggest difference I noticed, when trying to climb straight up on rocky surfaces it no longers wants to slide left or right. Before, if I would give it much gas and turn back and forth, the front end would want to slide sideways.
