Update from the owner 4/4/08

I just got off the phone with him and I have a couple things to report. Snow is almost gone & he hopes to be in the woods working on new obstacles next week. To answer questions about volunteer helpers........ the answer is YES.
Within the next week we will try to set a work day. This will be a one or two day weekend, probably the last weekend in April.

He will be looking for people to come with chainsaws and gloves to help move trees, logs and brush so he can get in with the front loader to work.

NO WHEELING ON THAT DAY. Please don't come with the expectation that you will get in a couple hill climbs. That comes on May 31st.

Second update. He only has 45 campsites availabe for May 31st. If you want to camp on site, you should get your reservation in soon.

So, for those of you that volunteered, grab you buddy and make some plans.

We are working on a plan right now, and once deano approves/disapproves/modifies it, we will go to work!

Making log climbs, rock climbs, cutting new hill climbs that will be tough, etc..

Absolutely. Theres already straight climbs on the property, and the whole goal for OSTC is a multi-level difficulty park.

All the "easy" trails already exist, now its time to make some difficult areas.

Yeah, he said to me "I have to have enough room to get in with the loader and remove the stumps we cut". I'm like NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO... STUMPS ARE OBSTACLES!:miff:

I told him we don't want 1" sticks poking up that can puncture tires but anything over 3" diameter need to be sticking up 12-15" so they will snag axles. I told him we want to force people to put a tire up on the stump rather than straddle it. He's like "ahhhhhhh":tonka:

Yeah, the 26th is a bad weekend for me too. The first weekend in May could work though.

We will finalize the week soon. But, keep in mind, this project is meant to help him build the courses that must be complete for May 31st.

All volunteers working to cut and clear trees should have safety glasses, gloves and steel toe shoes if at all possible. We dont need any missing body parts!

All direction of work will go through Deano the owner and Kitson/Myers, only do what is asked. And remember your file to keep that saw blade sharp! Loppers would also be a good idea for trimming for those without saws.

This is going to be fun, looking forward to it.

For anyone who doesn't know.....Kitson/Myers=Whiterhino/ClarkstonCracker. So listen to them.

I'll see what I can do about making it up for the work weekend. Depends on ballgames and $$$.

Depending on which weekend it is, I may be able to help. As of now, I've got the last weekend of April reserved on the Family Calendar.

If it's a 2 day, will he be letting people camp for free I assume?

Lastly, we should organize some carpooling since we won't need rigs. If I can make it, I'll volunteer my small economy car from the Lansing Area. There should be enough room to haul safety gear, work gear and tenting stuff for a few people. If not enough space then I'll drive the Tahoe.

Matt, good point about the camping. I'll mention it next time I talk to him. Actually, I'm hoping that with enough people this can be a one day deal. My schedule's really tight & I would rather do one day only.

Sounds great on the improvements. Wish I could make it, but the last weekend of April is mandatory event at work.

Thanks for the offer but I doubt it will be accepted. The owner's past life was an excavator and he has his own equipment. Our tasks are to move trees and brush so he can work on the obstacles during the weekdays. Please keep in mind that he probably has insurance issues with who uses heavy equipment on his property.
