What Birfields/Front Axles are you using?

I'm locking up my front axle, and wanting to upgrade.

Curious what everyone is running?

This will be with 36" Swamper SXs, and 100:1 gearing, 22RE (for now, may swap in a 4.3 Chevy later)

I figure my options are either running upgraded birf's, probably heat treated stockers from Longfield, for about $150, or else a full set of Longfield 27 spline chrome-moly axles, which are $550 for the set.

If I buy the full axles, though, I can sell the spare 1985 front I was going to keep for spares, since my stock shafts can become my spares. That would recoup about 1/2 of the $400 difference..

30 spliners all the way. I am at 108:1 on 36" swampers. Elocker front. Have yet to unlock the front end on the trail. Never look back!

I'll run the 30's if I lock up the front someday, for now just stock birfs.

Im going to run stock until i bomb one.... but i'll only be going as big as 35's and no killer low range

BTW, yes, its locked. Well, I'm swapping thing over now, which is why I just ordered the 30 spline Longs..

4.88s f/r, locked front / welded rear, dual t-cases.

LOL, I have 1 month to swap the motor, swap the axles, install the front locker and shafts, bend up a front bumper with winch mount, and a bunch of other little things, before our next big trip..

Oh, the 'Tailgate' is the only piece of original bodywork on the truck :-)

My front is open...may get locked may not... not really sure.
The truck is being built for speed... hopefully that also means a semi capable trail rig
