Gas Tank question

I know the one it came with was flat enough that it did not hang far below the frame rails. The spare tire was mounted there. I figure I can put the spare in the bed as long as the tank fits between the frame rails.

Any opinions if this will work or not. I would like the extra capacity for towing. I only get about 8mpg and dont want to have to fill up more often than I have to.

the bronco tank works/fits. Same width. There was a writeup on thedieselstop.com on how to do it. I dont have the link anymore.

my old man had a 85 f350 crew cab and the rear tank leaked,he got a 60 gal.out of a full size dodge van from the junk yard and it was a plastic tank and it fit right in..but his was carbed..so i dont know..Good luck
