D60:Semi Float, 5on5.5, disk brakes

I'm not sure yet what housing to start off with but I want to end up about 65" WMS. Haven't done much research into that yet as I can problaby get my buddy to narrow anything so i'm not real concerned. If anyone wants to chime in with a suggestion that'd be great. Then get custom 35 spline shafts with 5 on 5.5. I wanna use the Explorer disk brake setup that I already have, like Dynatrac and others do. Is this a bolt on brake setup? Any other problems I'd run into?

This axle already exists - Jeep used it in the late-60's, early-70's FSJ's. Its called the D60-2, is 5x5.5 with 35-spline shafts, and is really easy to convert to discs. PM Fullthrottle - he bought the one he built from me, did the disc conversion, and then sold the CJ-8 to 84Scrambler.

The 1 problem is that they are impossible to find and I'm an idiot for selling it.

This is what you are looking for. Note the large 60-2 cast into the underside of the housing. Don't be surprised if you have to buy an entire Gladiator to get one. :tonka:

I have one of the ebay sf 60's that were going around last year if you want it. The plug welds are only tacked in, so removing the tubes, shortening them to your desired length and reintalling would be simple. The ends are standard Dana which use the -2 bearings. Moser will sell you any length shaft for $280, and the bearings and retainer plate for $100. Come and get it, brand new. $75

scott> that axle wouldnt have to be cut down i have 2 of them and after est wms that axles is perfect for a yj tj xj cj vechile as is just need shafts brake brackets calipers ...

best parts i found are waggy/chevy 6 bolt caliper bracket, same rotors, calipers and such but youll need a 6 bolt bearing/seal retaining ring on the shaft before the bearings are pressed in the bearings are from a d60-2 semi floater which u might get w/ the axles and if not can get through tricounty gear in cal!!!

also when u get the shafts ask to get a duel bolt pattern 6 lug or 5(big lug)

also see about the lug bolt being threaded in for easier swaps trail fixes!
