Your Nuvi should come with the maps preloaded onto it. If not the unlock code is for the maps sent with your unit (on a dvd), which are probably City Navigator North America 2008 NT maps. The unlock code is for the serial number of your Nuvi 200. When you put those maps onto your computer it will prompt you for the unlock code. Then you can load them into your Nuvi 200. If you try to load those maps into another unit, they will load but you won't be able to open them, as the other unit with have a different serial number. So you'll have to purchase another unlock code if you want to load them into another unit.
That is, basically, how it works.
