yamaha ultramatic transmission help

so heres the deal. for some reason my 05 kodiak 450 is topping out at only like 35 mph lately. this is in high range full throttle. it used to go like 60. i thought maybe i had mud built up in the drive belt case but thats clean. anyone here familiar with these belt drive setups? don't wanna take it to motor city powersports and pay out the ass to get it fixed so any suggestions are helpful. thanks.

Check the weights in your clutch, the grease can get dried out and/or clogged with mud so they can't move all the way.

Look here,this might be helpful to track down the issue. It will at least tell you how to see if pulleys are working right..

I did a lot of research before buying my kodiak, so I found it on one of the boards out there..

I saw a few people with similar issues with junk in the clutch, or dries up grease. Its called grizz-grease from yamaha, 1 oz on each weight.

Typically a sudden drop in speed but not RPM is a sticky clutch. It can ruin a clutch if it is not fixed ASAP.

well i did as per the link Jesus gave me to take it apart. sure as shit the primary sheave was full of dirt and nasty grease. so it looks like i'm going to go get some of the proper grease clean it up and it should be good as new. next thing i gotta fix is to clean out the carb.

Cool, would be sweet to have a list of decent forums for quads. I have spent some time at exriders, but there is not alot out there for utility quads????? I have a kodiac 400 4x4 2002. Works great!! Looking at a 650 prairie though.
