Anyone ride frozen lakes

Since I didn't even get to ride my bike this year (its broken + too many other projects) I've been thinking about mounting up some studded tires and crusing some lakes over the winter. I've never tried it before, but it looks like a good time. Anyone on here ride lakes thru the winter?

if by bike your meaning Dirt bike

i did a few years back it was a good time but really it wasnt much worth the time and money spent to stud up perfectly good dirt tires to ride on the lake. plus the studs dont really work if there isnt bare ice to dig into. when theres snow it causes the tires to sort of float instead the studs grabbing. but if you can get a few buddies together and one of them with a atv with a plow and clear off a track of some sort it is a great time. it deffinitly made for a different riding style thats for sure.

i'll never ride a bike in the snow or ice again after falling on black ice and breaking my leg a few years back. my quad on the other hand i used to do that all the time. only the lakes (more like ponds) i rode on were only 2 feet deep if that so if it fell through i wouldn't loose the damn thing.

Used to ride a CR250 then a CR500. I used the hex head slotted screws. It was a blast. Now that Im an old fart I think its crazy.

I raced my car againest a Vmax sled on Whitmore back in `83. slide off the end of the track at about 100 mph, took six of us to get it back on the track and back to hard ground.

just remember you do not any insurance if you take stuff out on to lakes. However I love to take my quad out on the ice

I went out to Lake St.Clair,Bouvier Bay last weekend it was great. Lots of people many sleds bikes and quads drag racing. If you run your bike out there you need studs for sure in you rear tire. The ice gets tore up after awhile and the screws with the hex heads wont hook up. This weekend should produce good numbers. About two weeks ago I took my bike to Houghten Lake for tip up town, with screws in the tires and it hooked up great. Riding through 10 inches of powder i could ride a wheelie. If you just want to crusie use screws.

Last weekend four trucks went in the water trying to get off the lake. All the ice was broken around the DNR launch where you get off at. Would not recommend driving your truck out there with these ice conditions.

up here in my area we have about 18 to 20 inches of ice and the lake is huge!! it is a blast

thinking about throwing the sand paddles on and run the snow with it

i was national ice racing champion and won the state 3 years in a row on a bike.been doing it for years.you want to just play around order a set of treallberg tires.they come with pre studded carbide studs in them.if you want to be serious you need a professionaly built set of ice tires.it is alot of fun and there is a whole winter d14 circut for ice racing with both bikes and quads.

do you know the Flemmings? They are big into ice racing.....XR500 motors on knight frames I think
