Plowing snow with a 4x4 quad....
Who's got a plow for their quad? How well does it work for snow plowing duties?
Hehehehehehe, looking for reasons to justify getting on. If you WERE going to use it to plow snow, what would the minimum you'd think would do the job? |

I have a Arctic Cat 650 V2 with a 5ft. plow. It worked great this weekend. Last year we had a wet snow, and that made it a little harder. But it still did a good job. I have a winch on it to raise and lower the plow, I can't see using a manual lift on it. Although some people do. And yes, I bought the ATV for plowing snow. The side benefit is the fun you can have the rest of the year.

i use a plow to do my driveway. i have a 48" plow on my kodiak450 4x4. does a good job, i've plowed up to 18" of snow without traction problems. hardest part is since my plow has manual angling you gotta stop and get off to change angles. i'm going to be getting the new warn angling actuator soon. the other thing i want is a blade scrapper for the bottom made of something other then metal cuz it kinda chews up the pavement when striking objects. they have polycarbonate ones that last a long time and don't harm the ground. but since my dad just bought a snowblower now i'm just gonna build brackets to attach my snowthrower to my quad....

I have a Kawi BF650 with 54" plow (Warn) that came with the machine as a promotional item ($69)
I have a winch with mine--manual was OK for just a few passes but I have a bad shoulder and with the snow we just got I was glad to have the winch. X2 on the added benefits the rest of the year. |

Also while I don't know to much about it, Artic Cat also has a diesel. I think it's a 650 single. Supose to have killer torque. |

IN A HURRY??

I would go with no less than a 350 4x4 to plow with. Another thing to look at is, how easy does the quad go from forward to reverse and back. Some atv's are a pain to switch to reverse.
Quads can plow well, but you will need to keep up on it. You will not be able to move deep heavy or "hardenned" snow very well. That said, I am looking for a plow for my 400 kodiac?? |

The only problem with the smaller 4x4's is the weight. Mine's at about 750lbs . The only time I ever had a hard time was with about 6" of wet snow and the bottom 2 were slush. It still did a good job, just took longer. Any other time it pushes it easy. Even the 8 to 10 inches we had last weekend. I think the extra pounds are your friend when plowing. Oh, by the way, I don't use chains.

I put the Ick in Dick.

There is no better setup than the Polaris Glacier plow. It goes on and off in under a minute takes up virtually no ground clearance.
I have installed a good 80 or more plows in the last 4 years and I still can't get over how well an ATV can move snow. It takes longer because it's smaller but it works very well for smaller driveways. |

me and a few frieds/do workers help out a snow removal company during the big snows. 1 has an artic cat 500 with a plow. it is a life saver, so much so that me and another co worker are planning on buying quads this summer. his is stock and was easily driving through 2+feet of snow at the gm plant in lake orion. it was pushing alot more snow then i though it would as well. you can make alot of cash whoring yourself out to snow removal companies as well. thats what he does. and hopefully i will to. the only down side is that the which cables are prone to breakage, easy fix but kind of annoying also.
