I am looking to upgrade my stock carb on my 85 1.3 sammy. It looks like webber is the most popular choice. I would appreciate any advice on where i should get one and how much i am likely to pay. Thanxs in advance

is anything wrong with the carb you have now, or are you expecting a performance gain?

Being in Canada, i assume you don't have the hitachi carb, but the aisin carb, which i know nothing about.

Webbers are okay, they can suck at angles, unlike the stock carbs that usually work pretty well almost on their sides. cost can vary, from about 300 bucks to around 800, depending on if you take your intake off and have it machined, if you want more Info on Webbers on samurai's go to zuwharrie.com and look for "sarge"

If your carb is f'd up and you just want a replacement, there are Hyundai Pony carbs, Toyota Corolla Carbs that will also work. Then there are the sidedraft carb options. My-Side and My-Side II from Zuksoffroad.com, it uses on Harley Davidson carb (~$400 total). Then there is the 4 side draft setup ($600) that uses GSXR carbs.

If you want to gain HP, do an engine swap not a carb swap.

My Stock carb needs replacing, i haven't decided if i am going to put the sidedraft kit on it, or just fuel inject it.

My truck still runs good. I am having some trouble with hot soak restarting. If you leave the truck for more than 1 half hour and try to restart it, it is very difficult. I am happy with the power ( past my speed freak days ) but I am disapointed with the gas milage, less than 200 kilometers to 30 litre tank. Also the oil is fouling quickly which makes me think that this carb is leaking into the intake when the engine is off. I had it appart and cant see anything obvious. So no i am not looking for more power just something that would resolve these concerns. thank you for the reply.

go find a nikki that carb rocked on steep climbs and it looked real cool to glass faced floatbowl

i have a friend that converts ford escort carbs to work on the sammies. You can buy one at a auto parts store for less than $100.00 and it works awesome. I have installed this on 2 of my sammiesand have had 0 problems. I have done several types of wheeling with one of them and never had the engine starve. If you need any contact info just let me know

Another good option is the Pony Carb, they are almost bolt on. I have a guy down here that was tired of his Injected 91 Running like a bag, so he actually took my intake and a Pony carb and dropped it on to it. He has since sold the truck to a kid in our club, so if you want pics I can get them for you. BTW I know Mapquest works, but where is Hannon?
