oil pressure ports

Where are they teaking oil pressure on the newer chevy small block... they always read 40-60 psi.

My 1985 I have reading off the cam, i run 10-15 at idle when hot running 10w30 and the engine machine shop said that is normal and fine... but looks DAMN scary on my autometer considering the first number on the scale is 25 and my needle hovers just over 0. I have always ran that low at idle, but was hoping for more with this oil pump.

are you taking off presure behind the distributor? or behind the water pump? if its behind the water pump its in the wrong place. either hook it above the oil filter or behind the dis. its should read 18-30 psi at the dis. anything above 7 psi is ok at idle.

I am picking it up behind the distributor right now. I read around 10 at idle, 35-40 when running, kind of a guess as my autometer shows it at just under halfway between 0 and 25 when hot at idle. I was just curious where they are taking pressure on the newer smallblock that my 2001 shows no less then 40psi all the time, 60psi when driving

you should have around 10 psi for every 1000 RPM, i may be wrong but i believe they cheat on newer gauges and they are more of an idiot light than a true gauge. i beleve as long as they see a certin amount of pressure they read high so that people arnt worrying aout only have 10 psi at idle.

even on idiot light systems the light won't come on till you go below 7 PSI, so don't worry about it. I have replaced pumps under warrenty for guys who swore they knew more then GM about there engines.

if you want more and have the abillity then go with a Melling high Volume pump, it will put you at 35-40 at warm idle and about 60-70 on the highway.
