I can not believe that michigan raised the minimum wage...

I won't get into the whole subject, but minimum wage raises only help the people earning that for a short time before the cost of living hits them.

Example.

Joe makes 5.15 at mcdonalds.

cheeseburgers cost .99 cents.

Government forces mcdonalds to give him a 2 dollar an hour wage.

So now Joe makes 7.15 at mcdonalds.

cheeseburges now cost 1.29 to cover the forced wage by the govt.

Joe is making 2 dollars an hour more, but now every retailer that employees minimum wage people must offset that cost into their retail price..

Car washes go up.
Grocery stores must charge more.
gas prices go up for cashiers salary,
its never ending..

EVERYTHING goes up... SO IT EFFECTS EVERYBODY..
It screws over everybody, but the government profits on higher taxes...

Why, oh why are so many people in this country STUPID???

makes absolutely zero sense to raise this, except to give the minimum wage employees a false sense of earning more, and filling the government with money out of everybodys pocket...

That cheeseburger at .99 would yield michigan 6 cents, but at 1.29 it will yield them 8 cents.

people don't seem to understand that connection.

these are usually the same ones that vote democrat and want the government to take care of them, but don't have the foresight to see the kind of tax base it will take to do such a thing.

I just typed a hugh rant agreeing with both of you, but I deleted it. I guess I am not in a fighting mood this morning. However, remember that goverment progams are crack for the masses. It's the ultimate political scam.

min wage is 5.15 and will go up to 7.00 by july 2007 ,
Have you ever tried to live on a small salary prolly not in the last 10 years but MARVIN is giving me min wage and if i didnt have a fat pockets bank account i would not be ablle to afford shit
The prices have already increased whewre the wages havent just think if you were that 16 yr old worhing 20hrs a week part time at mcd's or similar
5.15 x 20 hrs=103.00 -23.5%=about 75.oo a week net pay
that would fill my gastank and leave around 40.oo for other payments, spending etc.. this is why there are so many people of ethnicity at min wage jobs.

end not bad for waking up 5 min ago with a hangover my brain hurts

In theory, yes.

Technically no.

OUR cost of living will jump in october when the new rates go into effect.

So therefor, we had a pay cut.

This is such a political issue, yet I would bet that the majority of the people who receive a minimum wage don't vote......Makes me wonder who is pushing the issue.... wait, higher taxes. hmmmmm

Afford more Dubs..... thats funny.......yet true.

Another strange thing is that this is one of the first posts where we all agree........

I know it sounds harsh, but why should the government pay you because you don't have a job?

Allied roofing next to me is hiring for 11 dollars an hour, and I just talked to the owner, and he said people last 1 or 2 days, then quit

I agree 100% except those who are 'disabled' in some capacity. The problem with some of them is that they can technically hold down some jobs, but the pay isn't enough for them to live off from, so I personally have NO issue with them receiving assistance. It isn't their fault they were born the way they were, and I personally don't mind that some of my tax dollars goes to help them. Just my .02, so flame away.

Gotta love a family buisness. When my mom opened her ice cream store, I got a dollar an hour. Hey, and 9 years old, it was good money.
