518 slip?

I just drove my 2 trucks back to back one being an 88 ram 318 727 the other a 93 318 magnum 518. The 93 doesnt seam any quicker through 1st but really pulls away after shifting. the 93 did lose reverse but goes into forward very solid. is this a comon thing with the 518 or is mine just screwede up? I was thinking about rebuilding the 518 but if it eats that much power in 1st I'll probly just go with the 727.

what exactly are you asking.. if its sliping in first? the planitary that controls your first gear and you reverse should be the same just clutches control whats spinning. i rebuilt mine and its ok.. but mine just exploded. so.. yeah again.. are you wondering if you shoudl rebuild it? or if its normal?

It doesnt really seam to be slipping in my opinion it could be but it just seams to eat power in 1st gear it doesnt rev quick then take off slow like a slip but my very woopped 88 that sould have 100 less horse keeps up on bigger tires though first the the 93 leaves it after the shift to second. just wondering if anyone ealse had this opinion of the 518 eating power in first or if mine is fucked up and thats the problem

on the 518 the loss of reverse could be a broken or burnt rear band. Or a cracked reverse servo.

How are the tuneups on each vehicle, gear ratios, tire sizes, just becuz the one is slower doesn't mean the trans is dragging/slipping. What does the rpm's tell you when it us under hard accell's? Is it reving hi going slow? Thereis a lot of variables in the question you are asking.

your 518 is a 727 with a OD unit on it. So I would look to other things causing it to be a dawg.
