You had to expect it when Polaris bought into KTM. The KTM mill went into a Popo sport quad, and it was just a short time until they rebadged the Popo as a KTM...

Does Polaris use Ohlins too? Whoops - just checked - looks like Fox. Just looking at the two websites, there seems to be a fair amount of differences

Well Polaris had a KTM powered quad first but I think that KTM used a lot of knowledge from Polaris to make their own machine. Polaris has since sold all of their share of KTM but still uses their motors. I am really surprised that KTM didn't use a WP shock package, that seems to be their signature.

LOL, since WP does actually stand for "White Power" (Seriously) and would appeal to John Q. Redneck more. :tonka:

IMHO, they went with Ohlins to appeal to the people that race, that and WP suspensions don't work the greatest. I think KTM ditched the rear suspension linkage on their motorcycles in 98 or 99 and they are just getting the progression curve dialed in in 2007/2008...and their forks are still nowhere near Showa quality of travel. Maybe KTM didn't want to wait for WP to catch up - it had been a long-time accepted fact that if you buy a KTM bike, you need to drop some cash to have the suspension redone.

Duff,
I may buy a quad someday, but for the time being, we can still ride seperately and hang out at camp (where the beer is).

Yes but don't tell the others about that!

I have ridden my buddies 450 exc and thought the suspension was just about perfect. It is a lot easier to work on the rearend when you don't have to disassemble linkage bolts too

There's not a KTM dealer in my area so I won't even be able to look at the new quads

Ohlins is usually the best out of the box suspension you can buy.

i had a dealer support ride from ktm in 99 and then ,04,05,06. have had a 450sx every year and i will tell you they have come along way. the front on my 05 and 06 will compare to any jap bike.the rear takes alot of setup but once set right is a good unit.mike alessi has had good luck with his stuff.(he just switched to suzuki though.) i am sure this quad will rock. there 525 motor does not like long hauls down the road though.cranks are known to fail.

The rear of my 04 300 EXC is perfect for me; the front is another story.

Race tec bladder / revalve of the rear and a revalve of the front so far - damn thing will still pack up and send a jolt straight up my arms. :miff:

call brad lowe he is in durand mi. he is the man for ktm stuff in mi. was a team green factory rider for a while in enduro stuff.always did josh woods stuff and does a great job if you can reach him. or alan at lansing cycle. but if you dont know alan i dont think you will get the good stuff. 04 the forks were harsh. did you put diffrent springs in it? who revalved it? just buying a valve kit is not worth the money. for the woods you need soft setup w slow rebound. or depends on how hard you ride and your weight. if it is packing that hard stiffer springs or more compression. put a zip tie around one fork and see if you are using all your travel. and where the sag is set.
