How to stay informed.

Ever wonder, "How on earth to these guys know when our 4x4 trails are being threatened?"

What I've done, is to subscribe to the Blue Ribbon Coalition's email alert.

You may find it here: http://www.sharetrails.org/alertlist/subscribeform.cfm

UFWDA also posts items that require our ACTION. Great Lakes Four Wheel Drive Assc. Has an UFWDA RSS feed on their forums. A great source of information.

When it comes to National Forest lands, a person's best bet is to call the Forest of interest and ask to be placed on the mailing list to receive the Schedule Of Proposed Actions (SOPA).

This document is issued each quarter and lists ALL of the projects that Forest is undertaking. It also informs you of how far into the process they are, who to contact for more information, and where the project is located, geographically.

You can also ask to be placed on the "Scoping List". "Scoping" is the initial step of a project's lifespan. This lets you know what the NFS is thinking of doing in an area BEFORE any enviro studies are done. This is the easiest place to effect change. If this fails, you still have the 'usual' 30 comment period to try again. I find that some success can be achieved at each step in the process.
