1.6 8v carbed swap into Sami info
I just recently finished my 1.6 swap into my sami. I figured I would give all of the information I found out the hard way in case anyone here gets into the same project. I hope this is of some help to someone, as I couldn't get any definite answers from anyone on what parts worked together for this swap.
Engine stuff: 1.6 8v block with 1.3 head (for using stock fuel pump). 1.3 head needs a timing pulley from a 1.6. I used a 1.6 headgasket. Use 1.6 timing belt. I used stock intake, carb, 1.3 header, everything. I didn't unplug or unhook anything on that side of the motor. I just pulled the manifold from the head and hooked it back up to the new motor with . Stock 1.3 starter, have to grind on the block a bit to make fit. A couple of your coolant hoses and vacuum hoses need to be lengthened due to the taller block. Clutch: Use 1.3 flywheel and clutch Mounting: Dodge 318 motor mounts ('90 I think). Had to modify them a bit and clock them to make it fit. I used the 1.3 trusses (the mount mounts) not the 1.6. The mounting was way too wide with the 1.6 trusses and stock mounts. No need for body lift in my case. The intake is close to the hood, but I don't think anything is making contact. Engine to trans adapter plate: I reverse engineered a major manufacturer's model. I have CAD data and can get them made if anyone needs one. I noticed a good power increase. It gained probably 10 mph top speed. At 55 mph it seems to pull pretty well compared to before having zero power up there. Now I am sure I can maintain speeds up hills and stuff unlike before. I still have some tuning to do, but am very happy with this engine.

What weber? downdraft or sidedraft?
Weber downdrafts fawking suck offroad. You need to regulate them down to about 0.5 psi to prevent flooding. I ran a 38 DGES on my 22R, which made more power than my fuel injected 22RE, but you just couldn't tune it well offroad.

The problem is that the Suzuki EFI is junk and hard to tune for a swapped motor. That's why the carb is so popular. |

I did this swap this spring. Very good Mod. I used the 1.6L head, with the
1.3L intake and webber carb. My webber runs real well. I sent my intake and carb to midwest performance. He did the vent tube mode on it, along with porting my intake and rebuilding my carb. Its magic. Very good guy to deal with, and he's a sammi guy also. |

It is running a bit rich. I am sure I could get more out of it. I almost don't want to even mess with the stock carb crap. Not sure whether I want a webber, the GSXR carbs, or just propane (and propane accessories). Anyone have much experience with the stock carbs?

I have the Weber with 1.6 head, 1.3 intake, header. Love it. Drive off road only. Bought the Weber used, so I don't know if any mods were done, but doubt it. Performance is great.......EXCEPT in hill climbing, if big bump at top, will quit about 1/2 the time. 95% of the time I love it..........
