Yup...welding class is following a design made by the drafting class...based on drawings my students and I made.

Again, I must state, no school money goes to these projects. I pay for these myself.

nice job. have been wanting to build my own front with flares and possibly rear someday soon so i could clear bigger tires but lower my suspesnision lift.


what are you using to bend the tubing and what type and size of tubing are you using?

So how much does it cost to get ahold of your drwing plans for those fenders?

HAHA....I'll see if I can get a set. It was more an excercise for the drafting kids...the welding teacher and I are mostly doing this in our head and on the dry erase board. We are adding a little step area and a light tab.

We're bending the tube with a huge ass old bender. I'll have to take a pic for ya. It's something welding had over there. Thing weighs about 500 pounds. Needed a fork lift to get it on the table.

The tube is 1 inch OD tube. I was going to use the 1.25 tube like all the other places make them out of untill I had the 1.25 in my hands and felt it was too big for my liking so we went with a little smaller. I really like the size of the tube.

That bender works???? I dont think it does any bigger than 1 inch anyway does it? Looks good im guessing you'll make some iner fenders to right. Ill stop by and see it next week.

Yea, works really good too. Doesn't put that muffler dent in the tube. We have dies for smaller and larger stuff...but we don't have the dies for 2 inch.

Actually if you look here...the inner fender is re-used.

i need to get a tubing bender soon, cheaper then buying most tube fender kits too. or maybe i should just con my auto body teacher into letting me steal the one they have in storage

We are notching it with umm....some kind of end mill or something....I forget what the machine shop guy called it. Some areas we are just using a grinder.

Or you could just buy some 1 inch tubing and bring it to my house and use my bender. Then take the bent pieces home and finish it up.

If you know the correct angles, using a grinder or cutoff saw works excellent.

I believe for a straight 90 degree angle, making two 28 degree cuts is the correct notch technique..

hmmm...... may have to take you up on that offer someday if i can figure out the degree of bends i need before hand. gotta start saving for some 1" tubing and drawing up plans.
