engine noise

so i swamped my dodge yesterday.....

ran pretty much perfect before yesterday, went to the mounds and got water in everything...

so i spent the day draining everything (yes everything...)

so now my transmission is working again and what not and all that.. only thing left bothering me is the engine..

it will have no oil pressure after a couple minutes of running and will pop back up if i rev it up to about 1400 or so.. other than that.. decent amount of noise from what sounds like the top of the engine that was never there before..

* i did not run the engine very much once i knew there was water in it.. but it was ran..*

Plus the oil burning...

How could water in the oil cause the engine to suddenly start burning a lot of oil?

Noticed this after the oil was changed and relatively clean

maybe you partially hydro locked it? you could have sucked in some water that was enough to do damage, but not enough to physically lock the motor. could be a bent valve or pushrod too. I had a 78 bronco that bent a pushrod. I was just taking off from a light one day and without even beating on it, it had one little backfire and from then on had a tick. A couple weeks later i decided to pull the valve cover off and could find nothing wrong, but a pushrod had bent. I suspect an oil deflector fell off and got stuck in the valve spring causing it to bind, then fall out and into the pan. All I know is after a new pushrod it ran like a champ again.

i did notice some ticking, so it is an idea to pull the covers and the rockers to check all the push rods,...

Can you post up some more specifics?

How/Where did water get into the engine? Did you ever have the engine stall? Hard start?

I can tell you a past experience from the mounds.. stalled the engine in deep water. Was hard to restart, as the exhaust was filled with water.

No water got into the oil, but the hard starting put a lot of fuel into the cylinders, which washed down, and got into the crankcase. The extra gas thinned the oil.. Drove just back to the lot and put it on the trailer. Changed the oil, circuilated it, let it sit, changed it again(including the filter twice)

After that, it was like you mentioned.. no oil pressure at idle, noise from up top, and burning oil..

The oil thinned out due to the gas, and just ate up the bearings and the valve seals.

That was a 304...

I drove it a few more trips.. it was smoking like a 2-stroke.. bought a 4.3 to replace it, but sold the Jeep before I swapped motors..

Defiantely look in your top end. Maybe a bent valve or something causing the noise and the oil burning..

this is why I try and stay outa the water as much as possible up there. Had a similar experience but only lost an alternator which led to other problems but I wont go into those now. Sorry to here about your luck man. good luck and hope it turns out to be a minor problem. relatively speaking of coarse.
