Laptop with GPS Software

Is anybody out there using a Laptop with GPS on the trails?
If so, How is the Laptop handling the abuse, and what's the minimum system you would use?

I have a dell P3 600, with 512m of ram and an 18 gig hard drive.

It's old but still working, I'm just wondering if it would be usable on the trails, or if it is a waste of money.

I don't use mine on the trails, but i do on the road. I use my Garmin for the antenna and Streets & Trips for the active mapping program. I have an old Dell PIII 800, 256 MB RAM.

I haven't bought the software yet, I was waiting to find out if the laptop would hold up first. I think I will give it a try. (do you have a recomendation for software)
So do you have a stand or some type of holder in your rig to put the laptop on? (I guess something like a tuner car would use :tonka: )

Getting ready for the M Triangle KOTARO Mapping???:tonka:

Can't help with any answers, I'm new to this GPS stuff.
I always found it was easier to just memorize the trails as I went along.
Too bad the DNR and NFS can't read my mind!

Something like that,.............actually my brain doesn't work as profoundly as yours, I'm going to need the GPS to remember where I live. :tonka: :tonka:
