Issue with Koz offroad -

I'll just cliff it for now

Told a buddy redoing his entire rig to go with koz since he was ordering a ton of stuff. Koz fit the bill for a vendor al a everything.

He ordered 6 grandish worth of stuff in august. Pretty much everything arrived when said except for the rock rails.

Buddy wasnt really worried about the rails since he had so much other stuff to do.

Now its to the point where the run around is being given.

Last exchange that happened was they would be shipping out on weds. Last weds. WITHOUT A DOUBT.

Buddy requested the tracking number to be emailed when shipped and hasnt recieved a tracking number or rock rails.

Someone know if theres something else going on with koz?

I heard of a lot of problems. But last year I had him make a front bumper for me. He had it done before the set date and installed it too, so I wouldn't have to strap it to the roof.

He got my rear axle done 2 days early. No problems with that sort of thing here.

What does 6 grand get you out of curiousity?

I really hate these second or third hand post because there is usually some misunderstanding on one side or the other... and of course we never hear the other side.... not saying your lying, or your friend is wrong though... just that there are sometimes misunderstandings.

Yea I'm sure theres something missing but from hearing him talk about it he got a pallet of parts. then a box of what was missing from the pallet. then emails saying the rock rails would be X weeks. then blah blah etc etc

6K worth of parts included an atlas

Koz is a great welder and fabricator. He just seems to get confused on budgets, estimates, quotes, and timelines from my own personal experience.

Don't forget sometimes he'll forget what he's supposed to be doing and instead of asking you what it was that you wanted he'll just do whatever comes to mind.

short projects = yes
long projects = no

It seems like if you're dealing with him via telephone or mail (instead of in person) you can easily get pushed right off the back burner and onto the floor behind the stove never to be heard from again. If you're within a short driving distance of him everything seems to go just fine.

My recommendation, just continue to discuss the project timelines with him and let him know you are dissatisfied. Personally I hate these second-hand bitch threads. Keep the on MJ.

I DO know that Koz is working long hours the past several weeks trying to get a number of jobs done before Sno-blind this coming weekend. I would recommend giving him a call next Monday, after Sno-blind and discussing your concerns and explicitly discuss expectations for when the work will be completed.

The orders been on the plate since august. Sno-blind wasnt even a factor between now and then.

I hate these too but I was hoping for a "he lost his welding eye in a beer drinking accident" or some other rational explanation

This is one reason I won't go with a one man shop that isn't within decent driving distance. It's nothing against the person, but unless you can stay on top of your order, things won't get done typically. And this goes for any setup like this.

Yes, I wasn't trying to make excuses, just a recommendation that you give him a call after this weekend b/c you likely won't be satisfied if you try to talk to him before monday.

I'm sure James will make good once he is reminded of your concern.

he was called 2 weeks ago and swore they were going out "without a doubt" on weds the 9th. Requsted the tracking number be sent out when they shipped for reasons beyond just babysitting him.

its now... the 16th and still no tracking number nor emails about it. My buddy did however get emails about koz offering him tube fenders and comp-cuts for the YJ.... :dunie:

Sorry - its all my fault. I've been taking up all his shop time and bumping everyone else's projects. :tonka:

Oh, and BTW... Nothing he's built for me has ever failed. That includes driveshafts and axles. I love reminding the people on Misfits about that.

It should also be noted that the first link to the driveshaft that DetR6oit posted was not built by James. This was discussed, but its not exactly stated clearly in the thread. I believe it was outsourced to Joint, Clutch, & Gear. Needless to say, that source was dropped by him a long time ago. I watched him extend the one side of the front shaft for my Ram in the shop, so if it should fail, there will be no question as to where to address the quality or warranty issues. I don't expect it to be indestructible - all he did was extend the stock shaft. I didn't get to witness the XJ's rear shaft being built.

Why in the world people keep dragging up parts built by a source he no longer uses (because they sucked) is beyond me. Warranty policies are other issues, of course. I can only say that anything I have had a problem with has always been corrected on the next trip up there. So far I have been lucky, since there has always been an existing reason (new work) for another trip. Having to make that trip from the Detroit area really does suck, though.
