Another GPS post

Seeing Grzmonkey's post about GPS I thought I would give a review of my new cheap GPS

I picked up the Magellan Roadmate 2000 at Wallyworld for $200 bucks the other night. For the price it really can't be beat. It doesn't give you the actual name of the restaurant of gas station or other points of interest but it does tell you that they are there on the map. It also tells you when to turn and what the street name your turning on and can be REALLY LOUD (great feature for topless jeep owners). I was also suprised at how thin it was when compared to similar products in that price range.

So it's $200 and works well . . . . If your in the market without a lot of cash it's a good buy.

I just bought this Garmin street pilot . I borrowed one to use and was sold . Very easy to use , easy to view and an amazing amount of info in them . Every restaurant - gas station in the area was listed by name . Every rinkedinky subdivision street in the state seems to be in there as well .

Very handy in the Dump truck which is head to a new addy on every trip .

FWIW, I broke down on the way back from Tennessee over Memorial day and was in Tipp City Ohio. My friend has this neat Tom-Tom thing. It didn't have jack for auto parts stores. It had auto repair shops, dealerships, and the like, but no parts stores. Same trend appeared to be with things like Fish stores as opposed to pet stores or seafood restaurants. I suspect that businesses pay to list with various gps retailers just like they do in the Yellow Pages.

The Ique is a great unit, but is not is not recommended to be out in the weather. Garmin used to recommend it for hiking and such but so many people broke them that they have since taken that part off the site

It really is a good PDA though, and you can get them for about 200 on teh ebay.

Its amazing how much GPS systems have came down in price. I bought one of the original Ique's when they came out x-mas of 05. I think I paid $829.00 The new version is out, but it is only slighly better then mine, but the price new is $379.00 now

I really want to get something more rugged for the trails. But anybody looking for a good turn by turn gps system with voice navigation should look at the ique!

I replaced my Garmin GPS V with the Garmin 478. Absolutely no comparison, the 478 has the Color (these old eyes need), XM Radio capable, comes preloaded with detailed marine maps and detailed street maps, so you can find your way anywhere, in addtition to additional Memory or Maps, you can add Optional (Real Time) Weather and Sonar.
