ARGH!!! removing shock bar pins

I'm prepping for a little lift this this weekend....

I have some slighty used Bilstein HD shocks (pn B46-1046 rear, and pn B46-1798 front) that I want to use. I also have some Rocky Road Bar Pin Eliminators ready to go.

So, it should be a simple thing to remove the bar bin and replace it with the metal bushing, right? I've tried pressing, I've tried hammering with a socket, I've tried twisting, I've tried heat gun, I've tried hot water. I haven't yet ruined the rubber bushing, but I'm pretty close.

There HAS to be a trick to this and I haven't figured it out yet. Have you?

Thanks,

Chuck

Channel locks and map gas is the trick!

just alittle heat is needed.

When you order shocks from bds, they don't even come with the fricken bushings or dog bone in the shocks.. After doing a bunch of these insertions, you get the hang of it!

use the map gas to soften the rubber, then use the channel locks to squeeze them in

I've used a large bench vise as a press, way back in the day that I was the only lifted TJ in town.. I remember pressing in the bushing and bar pins in my apartment living room watching tv. Used a 6" vise. Took a while. Lotsa swearing..
