Front end clunk

I went Off the road for the first time with my 93 Ranger tonight. When i turned in 4 hi or 4 lo, it made a horrible clunking noise and the truck vibrated like crazy. The faster the tires spun the worse it got. I was thinking wheel joints but i haven't got under it to check them yet because its dark and cold out. I was just wondering if that sounds like a possibility, or if it would be something totally different. O and it has a dana 35
