Converting a 2wd F100 to 4wd. HOW HARD?

How hard would it be to make a 2wd 81 F100 in to a 4wd drive F100

I know I would need a T-Case, Drive shafts,Trans, Front axle, and a bunch of fabricating.

Here was i have the Twin I bean set up in the fron. Now could i just get a D44 stright axle and Radius arms for it and thats it for up front or is thier a lot more than just that. I have no clus and am wonding if it would be worth it seeing as i cant find the truck I want.

If you could get the parts cheap it still alot work. To put the D44 solid in its just like anyone else going from TTB to SAS. Most people lift it at least 4" since the crossmember for the engine will more than likely hit the diff depending on where you locate your axle . Honestly check out the SAS swaps on Pirate or FSB, it should really help ya alot.

I just did this on a 76 with 79 donor parts. It was only tougher than I had anticipated because not all of the holes were in the front of the frame where the coil towers/trac bar go. Other than that it was OK. X-member was a bitch to drill the holes in the top of the frame without removing the body.

Still have to put the t-case in and hook steering and brakes up.

If you lift it, can you get away without switching the crossmember?

I have done three of these conversions. 2wd IFS to 4wd TTB. Two 82's, and one 81. Very quick and easy swap. The TTB parts bolt right up to the 2wd IFS mounts. The 2wd tie rods even work with the TTB front end, you adjust them out longer to get the correct toe. One of the 2wd axle pivot mounts on the crossmember is welded, the 4x4 trucks were bolted. The only way that would be a problem, is if you installed a lift kit. Even then, it would not be hard to fab the drop bracketry required. The first one, two of us had 45 minutes into the front axle swap. Drove it home, did the transmission and t-case and driveshafts the next evening. Get a front frame clip from another truck, or better yet, get a 4x4 parts rig.
