where to buy some scrap steel

I live in Romeo michigan i am looking for somewhere i can just pick up some scrap steel to practice my welding on, i have a 100amp wire feed fluxcore welder, and a 230amp Arc welder, im look to get anything to practice with, also im lookin to buy some steel to bulid a stool for my barn, and a couple flat bar rails for snowboarding this winter were can i buy some steel?

go to your local machinist shop and ask to buy some scrap...

I know at Pontiac Steel, where I buy my stock from, they have a scrap bin that anything in it is free. Its pieces under 8" or so. Otherwise, the short drops rack is about $0.50 a pound.

There's a trailer/fab shop down at 25 1/2 on old van dyke. They dont sound like as good of a deal as the pontiac place, but theyre close.

Another vote for Pontiac Steel :) They are open Saturdays till noon too I believe.

Clark's Welding. It depends on what kind of mood the old man is in. I've been in there when he's in a real pissy mood, and you can't get an answer for anything out of him. But other times he's pretty friendly and helpful. I know they do real nice work there though.

Dood......just hit some local sheetmetal shops around the hood. They always have a steel scrap trailer full of scrap steel. Help yourself. Just becareful not to fall in, get cut, or gored.


Or you can drive n pick up lots of scraps that I have in my garage.

Where do u live ill pick up the scrap out of your garage, as long as they are usefull
