I ran a welded D35 and 30 in MY YJ on 35's for over year both off-road and as a DD
and never broke anything.

Welding (spool) is going to induce less stress on the components than having a locker unload

I'm still surprised you were able to grind those down without issue, that's pretty cool.

Now the welding on did on my 60....... well I don't even think the spiders will ever come out of the carrier :tonka::tonka::tonka::tonka::tonka::tonka:

I kind of overdid it :)

depends on the axle. if you can unlock the hubs making the wheels freespin, it will act normal. or if you have the disco in the axle like on the yj's its the same principal.

If you weld a non disco D30, you aren't going to be very happy.

Don't add any extra pieces to the differential- if you can't weld it well enough, adding extra scrap metal in the diff won't help anything.

As for the therory that a welded diff is easier on componants than an auto locker, I have yet to see that in practice, easpecially on the street- lockers are easier on the street on you alxes, especially if you know how to drive with them.

If you are asking these questions, I think it would be better if someone else welded it while it was still in the housing.

But I wouldn't weld a D35 at all...
