93 explorer starting issues

i have replaced the battery cables and the battery is brand new. the starter is new also. every once in awhile (when it feels like it) the car wont start and the key just makes one click. i go under the hood and touch the celinoid and it starts right up. some days it works some days it doesnt. what could it be?

Have you replaced the starter Solinoid?

Re-tighten everything and double-check those connections. It sounds like a connection problem.

if u have to hit the solenoid its most likely sticking.

replace the solenoid and the problems should go away. my solenoid sticks on my mustang alot but it sticks when im cranking it and keeps the starter cranking.

eh, you sure that you're touching the solenoid - I could have sworn that it was located on the starter itself

i was told it was the solinoid but im no good with fords. when i touch whatever it is located under the hood behind the battery on the inner fender wall area (pass side) with a wrench (connecting the two bolts momentarily) it starts

Coat the connectors in some di-electric (sp?) grease. Just make sure you don't accidentially ground anything with it by getting it everywhere.

Don't replace the solenoid, the problem is coroded battery terminals. This happens about every 6 months with mine, clean them up real good, works like a charm.
