Hi-Lift care

Okay, first time I've had a hi-lift mounted on the outside of a vehicle thru the winter. How do you keep it from rusting in this weather and salt?

spray off the salt, and make sure to use a good grade grease on the mechinisms.

And don't mount a hi-lift outside the cab. :tonka:

Where can you mount one inside a CJ7?? Keep in mind my spoiled rotten son drives it to school daily with a load of friends, so all seats are taken. Doesn't fit behind the seat, so where else is there?

he needs a highlift jack every day? ... perhaps a small bottle jack that fits inside the vehicle is in order .. after all you dont need a highlift to change a tire...

Hadn't thought of the bottle jack, but I doubt a small one will do it. The floor jack I have barely lifts the tire off the ground, so not sure if a bottle jack will do it.
Will check into it however, just hate buying more stuff to sit around the garage!

I learned the hard way....

i had my hi lift up on my roof rack until the fire acadamy instructor needed one the show proper use and support while using the jaws the other day..took it down and found out that even after a whole bottle of wd40 it was still siezed up...have it inside thawing now...hopefully some 5w30 will help keep it from happening again however i am now working an inside mount for it in my xj..atleast until spring...I also need to invest in a bottel jack to change tires.

..live and learn i guess....

you must have like 49" tires or are jacking from an odd location.. even my factory jack could lift my tires several inches when i had 35s on my tj..

You don't need JUST a bottle jack. Thats what nice blocks of wood are for. 4x4's work great.

So, I need to carry a bottle jack and blocks of wood to jack up the truck? I need to look under this darn jeep and see how high it sits. I'm thinking a bottle or sissors jack might do it under the axle. Can't be that hard to do.

My fav would be jack bags if you can find them cheap. Fits nicely under the seat and some can lift as high as a foot.
