9" mini spool

Anyone have experience with a 9" mini spool? Thinking of buying an axle with one already installed. Rather have a full spool but I'm going cheap build on this one for now.

A guy on GLJT just broke his at the Badlands- it was under a ZR2 pickup on 37s, IIRC.

Mini spool puts all the force on the cross shaft. At least welding you can weld directly to the side of the case.

I'd sell it, and buy a real spool, which are dirt cheap for a ford 9".

Pinion depth wouldn't have to be redone, just the backlash. Could probably do it yourself if you were smart about it(measure before hand.)

I broke the cross shaft in my old 9 3 times. Mini spools are hard on that shaft,

full spool, full case locker, or welded will be lots more reliable than a mini spool. run it until you can find some spiders to throw back in to weld it up, or get a full spool...depending on what size tire you run, and how you drive, you should be able to make it work for the time being.

My buddy striped the splines out of the mini spool in his 9" Now he has it welded. He runs 38x20 AG tires, like mine but 38's.

yes. he did. orrin stripped the splines out of his with his 38" tires.

dano would snap cross pins every weekend with his 40's

granted yes, they were 40's, but even so, i haven't been all that impressed by niners that still had the stock carriers in them, chromo cross pin or not.

Ya the cross pin is what mostly goes out.

Orrin was stoked thinking he busted a 9" shaft but was then let down, lol!

I broke my first cromo cross pin about 3 years ago, in my parking lot, at just above idle testing my new rear calipers.

I replaced it with a yukon full spool for $120, and never looked back.
