Anyone Know If The Xj An Tj Share The Same Axle Housing ?? Same Width Ect.?? Ok so TJ's use a low pinion. Here are a few more Questions: Has anyone had any luck at repairing a slightly bent front axle??? (damage is to the short side) The only way I can tell its bent is that the wheel bearing\hub is not flush when bolting it to the knuckle I have to use the bolts to pull the bearing into the knuckle. The welds that hold the tube in the pumpkin leak also. I've put a few thousand miles on it since the damage with no problems. I've been told Clyde's Frame and Wheel in Pontiac can repair it what do you think????? The damage is minimal. Questions answered, Thanks!

Depends on the year, 2000+ I believe were the same, before that, the Xj was High pinion. Some xj's were disconnect axles (all command trac pre 94) selec track models did not have the disconnect

Tj's have always been Low pinion (U.S. models)

They're interchangable (about the same width), but they are not the same axle.

the XJ has stronger "C"s and tubes from what I've read, and is a good replacment for the TJ's axle and teh YJ for that mater. just my $.02

I'm running an XJ (OK, actually MJ) D30 on my TJ right now. The TJ is not only low pinion, it is also a crush sleeve pinion axle. The Late ZJs and XJs were as well. The early ZJs used a low pinion D30 that shared gears with the CJ. However, they are all the same width, and knuckles and axleshafts interchange between them.

so out of curiosity will the tj44 bolt up in an xj?

Nope, the TJ is coil sprung, and the XJ is leaf sprung in the rear.

But...An XJ D44 will bolt up just fine. (And I have several available for much cheaper than a TJ D44)

All along we've been talking about a front axle and you jump to the back??

Don't XJs have leaf springs in the front? I know Pete M's MJ does :dunno:























Usually when someone mentions a TJ D44, I immediately think of the rear- I never even consider the Rubicon front D44, because it doesn't give enough strength for the cost involved. (I really need to stop scanning 3 forums at the same time)
