Do Gear Brands Matter?

ive been browsing around for 4.88s for a Dana30/Ford 8.8

ive came across many brands with great difference in price
so which are the quietest and best gears to get?

D30
PORC(performance offroad center)-4.88 with Master Install for $169.99
Yukon Gear-4.88 $149.99
Alloy USA-4.88 $149.99
Superior Gear-4.88 $199.99 or 153.99 depending which vendor
US Gear(offroad outfitters)-4.88 $175
-----then there are numerous different install kits (does it matter there also im assuming you should get the install kit from the same company?)

Ford 8.8
Richmond
Motive
Ford Racing
Strange
PORC
Yukon
-----same thing with install kit

yukons are junk

get a dana spicer gear if you can or a richmond or precision or superioir if possible they seem to hold up better.

For the dana 30 in 4.88 gears Most All vendors use a "made by crown" gear and box with their label. As far as the 8.8 I reccomend Motive gear and use the Italy made version. Strange and Richmond are great for the tracks, But wear really bad for on the street driving.

I run Dana and Precision in the Ram and will run Precision 4.88's in the CJ-8 if KillerB doesn't get back to me on buying them. :tonka:

put them in the CJ-8

So you all know when running percison in a dana application. You either get dana/spicer... or their house gear. Most likely it is a reboxed spicer gear set.

so precision is a good choice for the Dana 30 then? Since i cant seem to find a straight up Dana/Spicer gear which if im understanding you correctly the precision gear could end up actually being a spicer geaer set

and since Alloy USA and Precision Gear merged together, the Alloy USA would work as well?

If you buy percision/superior/westcoast/sierra/DTS and some others 4.88 for the D30 it will be a boxed gear from "crown manufacturing" It is a decent gear but other than Yukon in this application those are your 2 choices. And until 1 1/2 ago yukon sold the crown gear as well. It is a decent gear set but has a VERY tiny pinion for the D30 application. Those are the only 2 companies that I know of that make a D30 4.88 for a TJ.
