Low gears are going to be your friend with 35s, I wouldn't go bigger than that with the D30. Upgrade the axle u-joints, the gears, a good locker, and maybe axle shafts. I wheeled the badlands with 33s and a guy wheeled an xj with 35s, both on stock d30s and gears and made it through the weekend, but we were lucky.

If it was my jeep I wouldn't throw that much money into a dana 30 just to hope, pray, and wonder if it will hold together with 35's or 37's. If you can, spend the extra money and upgrade to a stronger unit.

i replied in your wanted post to. before you start thinking about putting a d44 under the front of an XJ i'd read this.

http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthrea...9&page=1&pp=15

a beefed up D30 could stand up to 35's and mild abuse. anything larger than that you really should be going to a built D44 or a D60

My d44 has held up so far to 36x12.50 TSL's. I cant say I've beat on it because that's not my style, but i havent been easy on it by no means. I'm running alloy shafts and Yukon Super u-joints.
