2WD tracker to 4WD

I hear a samurai can easily be converted from 2WD to 4WD

anyone know how hard to do the same to a tracker?

I have a somewhat wrecked 4WD tracker, and found a decent 2WD one for pretty cheap...

anyone?

What is your goal? More or less stock tracker for a DD? Or solid axle front?

its do-able same frame and tub, new trans, t-case and all the other obvious parts... for a vehicle so cheap its not really worth it though... just buy this one and call it good. :tonka:

everything bolts in except the mounts for the front diff have to be welded to the frame. either 1 or 2 mounts depending on the year. it is supposed to be prety easy.

If you are making a wheeler out of it, then you wouldn't be using the front 4wd suspension anyway.

You'd probably want to add at least 5"-10" of wheelbase, while you are at it.

why? I didn't see you have any advantage over my TJ in Tellico

you flopped, I didn't
I made it up slick rock unassisted, you didn't

:tonka:

I flopped because I'm narrower and taller than you, I need to get a lower C of G. I didn't try on slickrock because I was trying to get us moving along to camp and didn't want to spend 20 minutes on the hill. You didn't make heli pad

I'd have to think a 2wd tracker would be plenty easy to make into a wheeler. Just change the transmission and cut another couple holes in the floor for shifters.

I made helicopter pad farther then anyone but MArv on my first try, and Marv had been there before, you only made it after flopping there, so it was your 2nd assualt, which I didn't even make a 2nd...

so, as I said, you're no farther ahead

and still have not proven to me that the longer wheel base helps...

oh yeah, and making it up slick rock without spending the time on stringing out the cable saved time

so, back on topic, any thoughts to using a sami t-case?

this would be used as a light 4 wheeler only, if I go bigger then 31's then I'll go straight axle up front and probably tracker auto trans and tcase, but right now I'm thinking DD and light wheelin...

and Bryce, I picked this one up WAY cheaper then yours, and it's in better shape, just that it's only 2wd

You could use a samurai tcase, but the outputs are both on the passeger side, and you would run into issues with drivelines. Your rear shaft is a slip type yoke, and you would need a bolt flange type shaft. I would just look for a used 4wd trans and tcase from a track/kick, and rob the parts you need.

a sammi case also has a reduced high gear, like 40% reduction or something like that. With only 31's you'd be screamin down the road.

I belive it's 1.3, and with 4.6 gears it would be like 6.0 gears, and going from 185's to 31's I think it would make it like a stocker with 5.12's,

this is part of the reason I wanted to use it

I believe so, I haven't checked it out, but I have an older tracker with auto, so I'm guessing it is a 4.62
