Ranger Snorkels?

Any you guys running a snorkel on a 98-2006 Ranger? I hear the Toyota FJ40 ARB snorkel will work on the exterior but you have to do some modding to get it to work with your box.

I was just wondering if anyone has done anything that looks better than running a hose up your windshield.

I was going to run mine through the cab and up the back of the interior, and have it come out of the roof. Haven't started on it yet though, and my cabs in pretty rough shape, don't know if you want to hack yours apart.

Yeah I'd prefer not to hack up my cab although I can't even imagine how much fun it would be.

I'm really thinking about getting the ARB FJ40 snorkel and just mod the inside myself and mount it some how on the outside my way.

Y not just make your own. Its not hard. I made one for my dads ranger a while back. works great and easy if you take your time and know what your doing.

Take a look at that guys car domain....the snorkel looks bitchin IMO - and from what I've read through his postings over at TRS it wasn't hard at all to adapt - I'm leary to go to TRS though because they keep getting hacked and load virus's onto your comp.

Also, I've seen a few "H1" style snorkels that have been moded by going through the firewall and up the wiper cowl out into the open.....

One thing to keep in mind is that if you do put a snorkel on you have to waterproof everything else on your motor as well

I never got anything through on any of the 3 hacks. I'd think (hope) after this last one though they'd do some serious security upgrades.

I didn't either, but read on a couple of other forums that ppl were getting hacked


Anyhow, as long as you've got a diecent imagination you could really make anything work I suppose....it'll just take alot to make it look as good as that adapted FJ snorkel

I think u can make an ARB for a 1980 Toyota Land cruiser fit on ANYTHING :tonka: if ure worried about looks if go with that one..

Snorkels are piontless unless all of your vent-tubes are as tall as the snorkel

I don't plan on driving my truck into water up to the high of the snorkel intake due to the risk of me drowning. My truck would almost be under water. My air intake is low where' it's at now and I'd like to get a little out of harms way.

really? I guess you have never been wheeling with a stock intake in deep water.

What I am saying is that your axles and transmission vents are only so high so fording water over their height is a bad thing

not saying it's good (especially for an auto trans - it'll kill that too) but water in the axles/MT/t case (if not a newer hi tech one - think np205) wont do nearly the damage it will to a motor....i've seen plenty of axles that have been filled with water, ran the rest of the trip, then had the fluid changed a few times to work all the water out, and then last another 50k easy....

Those are the easiest things to extend. similar sized hose at Home Depot/Lowes/Etc., and hose clamps.

Jeepin was telling me that his vent tobe for his transmission is actually his shift lever (it was integrated into the base) and couldn't be extended. Haha for jeep owners.

I pulled the vent cap off my T-18, tapped it, and but in a tube fitting thingy (can't think of their name, kinda like this but not exactly mine, though the same thing), same as my T-case. I took them slightly apart so I didn't get shavings in them.

my tj has the same type except 90degree good mod since they have internal pump vent my axles arent extended yet bt my trans and t-case vent at the cowl higher than my airbox.
This thread just made me think about arb snorkels for 97 up tj they are worthless unless you modify your transmission

A simple snorkel can be made of PVC. That is what mine is made of and really effective.

yea i think thats the AX-15 ? Just drill and tap another vent to run wherever u want, then seal the shifter to the trans case somehow.
