gm 35 spline stub in a ford 60?

Anyone ever modified a gm/dodge spicer 35 spline stub shaft to fit in a ford axle. I know the ford is shorter so I guess the question is, is there enough spline to cut it off?

Thanks Adam

Either that or its a ridiculous idea. No clue, myself. Have you considered selling them and buying the correct parts? I know a couple of people on Misfits run Chevy & Dodge 60 fronts.

I don't have them yet but I would rather spend $130 for a pair instead of $260.

from what i hear its worth the extra $40 or so to just get chromoly stubs(not worrying about ford or chevy also), jesse mentioned this in a thread a while back. you should call the badlands and get the scoop.

Sweet I can't believe two u-joints could be $500, that cost more then the axle shafts! Isn't yukon also coming out with a set?

Yukon's are already out, the super joint. They run over $500 for a pair as well.

Bobby Long turned the Toyota front axle from a bad Birfield joke to a viable axle with plenty of clearance- after seeing a few on my friends run Longfileds in their Toys, it has made me think about running 8s front and rear in a Jeep.

I'd love to try a set of his 300M joints in the 60 I just got...

Thats what I'm planning for my flatfender.

Interesting, that the bolt pattern for the 3rd member is symmetrical. You you can take a front axle and run it as a rear steering axle. You need to cut and rotate the balls/knuckle, and the flip the diff 180*, and you are good to go.Again, with 30 spline longs and drive flanges, you will have to work to break a shaft.

Starting to ponder if thats worth it for my project (I have several pairs of toy axles around). I've got a Dana 18 T-case which would work for the pass/pass drops.

To go back to the original question, yes. You have to cut some off and then machine in a new grew for the snap ring.

from BV's pirate4x4 article "The Chevy/Dodge stub shaft is 0.600" longer than the Ford stub shaft"

Thanks, thats what I wanted to know. I was woried that there is not enough spline to engage with the locking hub/drive flange.

Thats what I thought although those were 44 joints I would assume? I found them for 255 for 44 and 440 for 60 joints, where did you get yours?

From what I've seen there is. A friend blew a 30 spline outer a few years ago at tellico. He went into town and bought a warn 35 spline chevy outer and warn locking hubs and they turned the shaft down for him at Farmers. He was able to rebuild it with no problems.
