D60 needed. Which Vehicle?

This is not a wanted post.

I'm looking for a (newer) rear D60 with disc brakes. That's the only requirement. Does anybody have any suggestions as to what vehicles have these in? Any thing I should look out for (besides the obvious wear and tear)?

There are a few local you-pick junkyards, but I'd like to know which vehicles have these before I get there. Thanks.

General Tech says what? :tonka:

What drop do you want?

Do you care if its unit bearing or kingpin? Big difference in replacement part cost.

He's looking for a rear D60.

Not too common to find a rear D60 with discs in a U-Pull-It.

Could someone move this to Tech?

Yeah, I can't read.

Somebody was selling something like here on GL in thepast couple months.... Do some Advanced Searching in the Marketplace. You may at least find out what it came from and look for more if you don't like the price you find.

The other thing to consider is that its not very expensive to convert them, if you find somebody that has a few sitting around (like me).

*edit*

I've read full-floaters generally are designed to carry more load, but would they also be better for carrying more hp and torque?

The 10.5" ring gear is a dana 70 and the 11.5" is a dana 80! What are you putting it in? There are alot of different options out there, so knowing what you want would help. Another thing is a disc brake kit is like 300 bucks.

I don't mean to sound disrespectful, but are you sure? These are the options for a 2004 Chevy 2500 (which somebody was selling a rear d60 from recently on here).

I thought everything he listed would be AAM? Me know nothing about Chevy crap.

Well I thought that was a search for a dana axle, since he was looking for a dana 60 and it says non quadrasteer. I don't know what the late model GM runs. I know that by the ring gears listed that the models I listed are correct. A dana 60 is 9.75" ring gear. Just tell us what you want it for a we will tell you your best options!

Ok, that helps a ton. Do you want to keep the 5 lug or is an 8 lug ok? How close to XJish do you want to stay? If you want 5 lug I would find a semi float, or build a semi float and then you could make it any width you want. I have a Dually dana 60 for sale if you want to narrow it. I remeber reading that someone with a dakota used a late model ford E350 van axle. It had disc brakes and was close to the same width as the dakota which seems like it would be close to a xj width

LOL, here's what you need to do..

Go down to your local junkyard and ask to find a ~1970 B-Body dodge (like a charger, cornonet, super bee, GTX, etc)... preferably a fully optioned big block or hemi.

The dana track pack included a Dana 60 rear, 5 on 4.5" large bolt pattern, and its just about the right width for an XJ..

good luck

Come on Jesus , you're limiting him- he can also get one from a '70-'71 Challenger or 'Cuda, and it will be a little wider, as well. (The B-Body D60 is a hair narrower than XJ width)

The axles you posted are GM AAM stuff, and HUGE. Might as well hook up a plow to your trailer hitch as run one of those. They started with the classic 14 bolt and added tons of webbing to them. terrible ground clearance.

There were disc brake full floating dana 60s in 2001 dodge ram 3/4 tons, but they will be too heavy and too wide.

I'd say the advice for looking under 3/4 and 1 ton vans is good. Ford definately used them, but also used Dana 61s, which look the same, but are poo.

There were narrower D60s used on some chevy duallys, they'll have big heavy drums on them.

J20 trucks also have somewhat 'narrow' Dana 60s, maybe some 6 bolt semifloaters?

Understand this: The majority of Dana 60s rears are full floating, and that means you have 1.31" 30 spline shafts. Yeah, Dana 44 shafts.

Some HD versions of the FF Dana 60s are 1.5" 35 splines. The semifloater Dana 60s are 1.5/35s.

Thanks for all the help guys. Whats an easy way to differentiate between a d60 and a d61 though?

*edit*
Nevermind. D60 axle tube is 3.125". D61 is 3.5".

I'd be careful there..... gotta believe there's always an exception to the rule...

I'd run the BOM the way PP does....

BOM is always the best way to know exactly what you have, but not every BOM works on the Dana site. There are other resources, so it just takes some hunting around sometimes.
