D30 and D35 carriers

Are the carriers in the d30 and 35 that have 3.56 (or whatever) different than the carriers for the 4.10 gears?

I have a set of 4.10 axles and was wondering if I can swap the gears out of them and put them in my axles.

Nope, don't want to put the whole axle in, the D35 in the Jeep is a non-c-clip so I wanna keep it. And the d30 that is on the shop floor has different brake parts and wheel bearings from the one in the Jeep (which are all new) so I don't wanna have to replace all that too.

Hmmm,

I believe 3.55 down, 3.73 up is the split, at least for the 35. The 30 may be 3.73 down.

Either way, you need to carriers, I think.

3.55 up on D35......but the carrier break is 3.73 for D30's.

Swap the 4.10 d30 in, and use your old knuckles and outers. Easier that setting up gears IMHO, and I do it for a living :)

Your rear carrier should be fine for 4.10 gears.

I have done this countless times, and it works out great. Plus, you know that you will still have the exact same pattern on the gears. The D30 in the front of my TJ was done this way, and it took about an hour for the swap.

KO...so i'll swap knuckles on the 30, and then find someone to swap the gears in the 35.

why not just find a 44 and put some 4:10's in there? you can usually find them pretty cheap (however, for some reason I thought that you had one

....) the 44 would be stronger than the 35. I know that you have good luck with it, ibut t would just seem like a more logical solution to me than dumping more money into a 35 when you will eventually swap out

lol he DOES have fullwidth axles. A D44 front and a 9.25 rear and a D300 tcase. The tcase needs a little love but other than that and cleaning up the axles they are good to go, besides gears. Not sure what are in em...come on everyone pester muddypaws to put the good axles in LOL.

Ok, lets clear a few things up for you retards. :tonka:

First, yea, I have the axles that XJToivo says, but they are far from "ready to go". They need a couple hundred dollars in brake work to be usable. Basicly they need everything plus u-joints and a couple of balljoints.

Next, putting them in...it's like you guys have never done anything like this. There is a bit more here than just popping the axles in. :miff: First, they are stock, so they would need new gears, and lockers. Then the front is a dodge d44, set up as spring over and one of the perches is cast into the pig...so it may never work for what I want because I don't want to go spring over. Even if it would go in, then there is the steering issue....yes yes...yet more money.

Oh, did I not mention that the d44 is the wrong side drop? Yea, I have a d300 that needs to be rebuilt because it's fucked...there is a cracked gear in it, then I would have to get an adapter to mate the d300 to a th350 trans. Ok, there is more money, then new driveshafts...oh and a twin stick setup and a clocking ring....money money money.

All this will have to wait till I can do it right.

Ok, now to the other plan. Swap the outers on the d30, pop in the locker and call it good. How much was that? Oh yea, a couple bottles of gear lube and a tube of RTV.

Now the rear, find a local guy...maybe a guy on my advisory board, get him to swap the gears for me, I already have a master install kit in the garage so nothing there, so maybe I get him to do it for a case of beer. I put the locker back in and down the road I go for the cost of a case a beer, a few jugs of lube and a tube of RTV.
