Locker or limited slip

Your opinion on a locker and a limited slip. If you drive on the road alot, but yet go to silver lake, mounds ( hopefully) and maybe th badlands. I go wheeling around school, and was just wondering what would be the best. I also tow with the truck. Just wondering what you guys woudl chose and why. Thanks

When I did the 35 spline 9" I was having trouble deciding on a spool over a locker, I opted for a Detroit and was very happy, I had previously had a limited slip in my other jeep. The 35 spline detroit rarely unlocks and when it does you think you broke something, but it's better in the snow then what people said it would be. Good luck.

how about a limited slip locker???

i probably shouldn't post this since i don't remember the company, but just the other day i was fliping through a magazine and found one that when dis-engaged acts like a limited slip and when engaged is a full locker.

maybe somebody else can pitch in and help me with a brand name.

go look at this....."The Detroit Electrac functions as a heavy-duty limited slip differential and a driver-activated fully locked performance differential."

Auburn Gear Ect-ed is the same thing...LSD in normal more, and spooled when engaged.

Welded rear is the only way I would go anymore. Trail or street. Predictable and cheap.

vote for weld. Unless you have a heavy rig, a Detroit will stay engaged around most corners anyway. The Lincoln locker will always be locked. you don't have to think about it locking up 1/2 way through a snowy corner when you wouldn't expect it.

Yeah, as much as I hate to say it, a limited slip sounds like the best option.

Although, with the cost of buying one and then installing it, you might really see if you can step up to a selectable locker or something.

I kno wthat even the factory trac-loc in my TJ did better than a similar open diff'd vehicle in the snow. Likewise the trac-loc in my old Ram worked pretty well in the Dana 60.

But lockers are far above and beyond a LSD..

They are right, a lcoker isn't going to be all that un-locked around corners in something like a Jeep. And its going to slide around on snow and ice just as much.

Having driven a YJ before in the snow with a lock rite and 31x10.5 BFG ATs, it wasn't that bad. Having a tire thats good in the snow helps a lot. But you have to understand that it will change the characteristics a lot.

Really, its your call. A limited slip will help a bit off road, and be a little more slidey on-road. A locker or welded rear will help a ton off road and be a god bit more slidey on road.

Lockers/spool will defiantely wear the tires more.

I would weld but I am not to keen on that, for some reasion i just dont like it unless its truly off road, ya know? Plus I have heard storys about the welds failing then destroying the diff.I am thinking about geting a lock right, for thoes who have it, is there a lot of tire wear?? or is this going to be something i am going to have to live with when i get a locker?
Again thanks for the input guys.

x100000000000

welding = teh whip.

that way when it breaks the only person you have to blame is your dumbass self.

the only way the welds are going to fail and destroy the diff is if YOU don't know how to weld....

I doubt your going to apply 10,000 pounds per square inch of force to your diff.. if you do, you should prolly upgrade axles while your at it..
