lighting

I am thinking about building a new bumper and I am wondering what are peoples thoughts on off road lights, What your preference is and how many do you have, and where are they at?. Also, how much do you use them, were they worth it?

I have KC. They're nice and bright. Mine are mounted on the windshield though. KC slimlights would be nice on the bumper. Kinda pricey though.
I have a pair of Pilots from Murrays on the bumper. Work well for everyday driving lights.

Since you asked-

I'd recommend upgrading your headlights before adding aux lights. Check out the H4 replacements that FrischJ is running. I've been running them on everything I can, and I couldnt be happier.

lets see, since july on my xj i have two KC knockoffs (8 bucks at harbor freight) and two meijer 9 dollar specials on the roof rack as well as two more Meijer specials up front on the bumper..and a set of square halogen driving lights on the back of the rack...to date only the bumper lights have power..but that will all change when i get my fire siren and rotators fully wired in.......so now that i have almost all the peices the question becomes how much power am i going to pull from the cab and how to i run it and wire it..all with out creating a super power drain on the alternator or battery....should be fun...

ok, i have tryed the "white" or " blue" lights for the headlights, are these the same as the h4? Where woudl i get them and about how much do they cost. I am building the bumper so I want to incorperate spots for lights now. that way ill have them ahead of time, ya know.
Do the knock offs draw more amperage for the same wattage? I have 2 walmart specials right now, and I think they could be brighter, but they work alright.

Woah.

Nope. The blue lights give you less light. You're putting a blue filter on a bulb, the filter removes some light, giving you less total.

These are stock lamps for european vehicles. They have stricter requirements on performance for headlights. The best way to say it is to check out a set in action. If you're at the Narrow Trail M&G this weekend, then FrischJ or I can give you a demo. And When I say european, I dont mean as in "euro tailights" or any of that junk.

As far as wattage vs current- For a fixed voltage, the ratio of current to power will not change. So a 55w light will draw 4.5833333_ amps no matter which 12v source you connect it to.

Talking

I love lights currently have 4 Pilot 6" round ($29.95 a pair from pepboys) Facing forward on my roof rack, 2 on the front bumper. 3 Rally 55 watt Utility lights ($9 each at Wally world) facing rear ward on my roof rack. No matter what light you get cheap or expensive need to be wired correctly with the proper relays and wire gauge makes for much better light output and much safer.
This is the set up i patterened mine after works great.
Fitchva is from NAXJA forum, good guy was very helpfull

i've been through a variety of lights, and i find the kc knockoffs to work the best for the price, but i only mount mine up high so i can use the bumper for hitting things or pushing things. some people have good luck with lites on the bumper, but just something to consider before spending hundreds of dollars on lights that will just get knocked off.

very good point, im going to recess them in to the bumper so they should be protected. But yeah I agree. I found on ebay 20 kc daylighters for $300 w/ shipping. that dont seem that bad
