Crawl Ratio Calculator

This is one of the better ones I have found, it is missing some trannys and tire sizes, but you can plug in what you want if it isn't listed.

Pretty good calculator that will show crawl ratio and speed @ 3K RPM Though I doubt your Jeep will actually be able to do 163 MpH @ 3K RpM with 44s and a NV3550 without some other modifications. :tonka:

Play around with it a little, and see what different trannys and crawl boxs can do for your crawl ratio- a crawlerbox will do much more for less coin than regearing axles, in many instances.

If you already know your gearing, use a calculator (Or Be a Man and figure it out in your head)

Or, even better- you can use Jesus 's Nifty Keen Excel Sheet that Cooter can't use due to being only computer literate enough to be able to say "I would like a chicken salad sandwich" and "where is the bathroom, I have a burning in my loins"

There ya go- I looked around a little, and didn't see it. Do you mind if I add it to the original post here. (I have to take your word on it working, I'm not able to start the apllication)

so no autos huh? Interesting that the people that should be most worried about crawl ratios are rigs that run rocks, yet a manual is a nightmare in the rocks, and the calc doesn't have info for autos

which also brings up the age old question of what gear reduction do you assume for a torque converter?

Yeah, I noticed the same thing, but you can plug in your slushbox's ratio- TF999 is 2.74, IIRC. The auto/manual thing is kinda aplles to oranges anyway, as far as crawl rtios go- you can get away with a lot less with an automatic because of the torque converter. And once you get to 90/1 or lower, a manual tranny is a pleasure on the rocks, IMO.

2 to 1 is a real rough estimate, and it will change, depending on tranny, converter weight of the rig, tire size and construction, etc.. (You really don't want to know what converter I run in the Scrambler) There is also a ton more fudge factor in an automatic due to converter slip.

Yeah, at that 2:1 factor is mainly only there below stall speed.

I'd agree with Cooter, once you are properly geared, a manual rocks the rocks.

In my truck I have overall final gears of:

100:1
59:1
44:1
37:1
26:1
25:1
22:1
19:1
16:1
12:1
11:1
9:1
7:1
5:1
4:1

At 100:1, even the wimpy 22RE idles up rocky steambeds with no bashing, no throttle needed. Downhill is slow enough that I'm on the gas to go downhill.
