lost....reverse lights...

ok so both of my backup lights on my 2000 xj stopped working, so i am trying to locate the fuse....i looked in the owners maual and it says to see the kick panel door for fuse numbers and locations...so i pulled the door and it says to see the owners manual for fuse information...WTF..vicious circle....

i then pulled my haynes manual out and it doesnt give me any specific diagrams or fuse number/location numbers in the box....again WTF..

so if anyone knows which fuse is the fuse for the reverse lights please do tell as i dont want to spend an hour pulling each and every fuse lookin for a blown one...

thanks
maier

If the reverse lights are out, but the check engine light is on, along with the AC not engaging the compressor clutch, then it is the fuse. If the AC clutch engages and there's no check engine light, chances are good it's the neutral safety switch needing to be cleaned/rebuilt. The @#$%in owners manual incorrectly shows the fuse location as being empty.

Fuse number 10 is for the reverse lights and aforementioned other stuff.

If the fuse is good, then you can try to rebuild/clean your NSS (neutral safety switch) by following this guide:

http://jeepin.com/features/nss/index.asp

A new one is $300 from the stealership, so be careful with it.

hey sonicjay, thanks for posting up....my check engine light is not on...where did you find the locations for the fuses...i posted this same request over on NAXJA.org and the replys i got all stated that there is no known print out /or write up regarding fuses and there locations for the 00-01 xjs...some kind of manufacturer screw up...it was requested if i found a complete listing to print it out and post it up...as one guy couldnt even get help from the dealership...

thanks for the heads up on the nss..unfortunatly you are about 6 months to late...i learned the hard way back in june. when i did my 2x4 to 4x4 conversion which included a new tranny...was in the middle of my disassembly when the nss gave me trouble and it met the end of my hodgy pry bar....take two guess' what happened..."new" one from the junk yard cost me 60 bucks...she still works today though....

again thanks if you have listing post it up......
