8.25 29 spline

Does anyone sell lockers for these. It seems other than a Limited slip or a select few lockers (arb) I can't seem to find one. should I just down grade to the 27 spline axles?

I would upgrade the axle. If you don't want to deal with an 8.8 conversion or go heavy, Cooter has XJ D44's. Plenty of locker choices for those.

I have a PowerTrax No-Slip locker in my 8.25.

PavementPounder - Are there any disadvantages to the 8.25? Is it weak or something?

Well, its not "strong". The way I see it, its one of those axles that isn't worth dumping money into, but at the same time isn't exactly garbage if you aren't running that large a tire or not throwing a lot of power through it. Kind of like a C20 from a CJ - they are everywhere and everybody wants to get rid of them for cheap or free. So, I just left my CJ on 33's stock and have a small pile of complete assemblies to swap in or pull parts from. I haven't even spun my factory hubs yet with 14.5" wide TSL's and aggressive higher-rpm clutch engagement, though I do have a set of 1-pc shafts on hand. :tonka:

I figured that if he was going to go through the trouble of doing anything to the axle, he might as well put forth effort in the better direction - especially since a bolt-in option exists. If you can get a locker, fine. But I wouldn't swap in a weaker shaft just to get a locker that might break the weaker shaft.

I guess my problem is being a college student I'm looking for a cheap simple option without having alot of downtime. swapping over a D44 would just be a pain IMHO. I don't need it. I'm only going up to 31's and they're pretty bullet proof till you hit 33's. I was just hoping on finding someone making a lunchbox a cheaper locker or Limited slip. Honestly if I go that route I might go detroit but prolly won't buy it till I get other things done (tow points, lift).

Right now I'm trying to find one for later install. I need tow points and other things first, but it doesn't hurt to do the research first.

the 8.25 housing is stronger than a D44, ring and pinion are the weaker point(D44 2 1/2" tubes vs. 8.25 3" dia tubes) Powertrax makes one for the 29 spline Essentials(www.quadratec.com) carry it for $409.99
