Haggar!!! I need help

86 22re into an 88, im running into wiring trouble kinda. Biggest problem is actually that the 88 had an auto tranny and i put a manual in it. Used my 86 harness and the 88 computer. I have power to the terminal but the fuel pump doesn't come on and the same with no juice to the starter. My guess is the nuetral safety switch on the auto, only thing is i don't know where it was and can't find a good wiring diagram. Im assuning i should just be able to jump the 2 right wires and it should solve my problems???

Any diagrams or ideas?

Thanks Pre4runner I was about to start this thread in regards to my 83 22r into an 80 swap. There are just a lot of things that aren't lineing up. I think I am just going to try to get the harness from an 83 and be done with it. I hope your swap works out though. Sorry I can't be of any help.

Wiring diagrams aren't the greatest. I had this issue as well. My truck is an 1983 frame, with a 1985 cab from an automatic with a 1985 22RE from a manual.. lol, great stuff. Well, first I ran the 83 22R..

Here's what you are looking for:

Over on the engine harness in the engine bay. Somewhere on the right side of the engine bay on the harness, there's a large-ish round connector that would have gone down to the transmission, so its probably not connected now. It has 3 wires, two are big and black, about 12 gage or so. The other is smaller.

The two big black wires need to be shorted together, in the harness. I cut them at the connector and soldered them together. I believe given the wire size, that it carries a bit of current, so make sure its done good.


That *should* solve the problem, if not, let me know, I'll take pics. I have the online 1985 service manual, you can also go to autozone.com and find the wiring diagrams (I posted a thread on them in this forum somewhere) they are scans from a chiltons manual, may or may not be helpful.

hey i was going to work on it tonigh tbut instead laura had to drive her car to school on the battery leaving it dead in saginaw. So we strapped a booster under the hood and drove it home with a 6 inch scoop. Barely made it back. Also i had to buy a suit for the wedding sunday. If her care is out of the way and i can get ahold of tyler for the fuel line piece we'll fire it up tomorrow.

fuel line troubles, too?

I have to rip out most of my fuel system... some pinhole leaks on top of the tank let rainwater in, which turned all the gas to milk.. truck doesn't like to run on milk..

Yes splicing the two wires together allowed me to crank it, as soon as i know what fuse to pull for the fuel system i will prime the engine and get her fired up tonight

its the 20 amp fuse in the same spot as the 15 for the older 22re's (lower left)

Shes purs like a kitten.... kinda. Its more like a lion trying to with the 2.5" exaust and flomaster

That would be nice, i mean i have 2 4runners i've been robbing pieces from, hunter2005's, but booth are older.

Anyways took the truck out tonight after fixing the clutch line and putting the front driveshaft in. For running on default it ran pretty good. O2 sensor shows up friday and if i get paid this weekend driveshaft should follow next week.

Unless you or someone has a stock drive shaft from an extracab with a manual tranny. for cheap

Well, the stocker on my 85 xtra cab manual trans is a 2 piece. The 85 xtra cab auto was a 1 piece.

All chopped up and retubed with 2.5" sch 40 now..

I have heard of taking a torch and burning the crap off the O2 sensor and reinstalling. I haven't tried it. I found out about this after I paid the $150+ for one for my '89 XtraCab when I had it.

Sometimes that works... older one wire mainly. The newer ones you can just burn out. My friend who autocross his vw will ocasionally burn one up running race fuel.
