Soa

Wouldn't it be nice if it was this easy to do a vehicle? I'll knock out the 2nd axle tomorrow night. No more rubbing on the JCR drive-over fenders when loaded with a heavy vehicle, I can now run 8-14.5's (7-14.5's shown), and the trailer is finally level behind the lifted Ram.

My axles did not appear to have any bow built into them, so I just flipped the bitches instead of using new perches. Actually, the front axle began its life as a shorter axle, as you can see from the welds where they put a section in the middle. I'm going to pick up a couple more this week, so maybe I'll get another that's the same width and a solid tube. This probably explains the excessive wear on the front axle's tires as well - they are not aligned.

Also more people dismissing them than making them. I also stated that one of my axles was hacked together (as purchased), negating any preload. If the other one is bent for preload, its bent the wrong way.

These are also mobile-home axles, if you didn't notice - they are garbage. Currently no brakes to worry about, either.

The rear axle does have brakes, but they have never worked. I've just made do with taking it out of OD & downshifting when I have had to stop harder than usual. Otherwise, the Ram has handled it satisfactorily. I also have slotted & cross-drilled rotors. The trailer also shed a lot of weight when it was reconfigured from a landscaper with sides to a hauler.

I knew you would do it soon enough :) Looks good, also give you some more tire options.

Probably will keep the axle tube off the frame now as well.

I FLIPPED THE AXLES ON MY NEW TRAILER THE DAY I PICKED IT UP. I HATE TO DRAG THE TAIL

I RUN A 2" DROP ON A STOCK 3500 AND IT SETS LEVEL

Moble home axles use the same size pads on both sides of the drum, so if they were upside down, they would work fine. Trailer axle brakes are different and would not work correctly upside down.

True. But now that Brimy schooled me on that, I may actually find the motivation to get them working while I'm doing all this. Hopefully the spare axles will have some good parts on them. I don't want to dump a lot of money into these.

Well, you can also run into issues inverting a shackle if you had them hooked up and little/no weight on the trailer.

Ah, you have floating springs..

On my last trailer, there were shackles.. brake torque used to rotate the rear axle and flip the shackles, the rear axle would get held up off the ground until I got out the pry bar..

Well, I'll just have to get boomerangs when I finally get the new axles and springs, then. :tonka:

Finished it up and put on the 8-14.5's I got from XJ4Life last night at about 12:30am. Everything looks good, but I was tired and didn't sit it on the hitch last night. After putting the tires on, it looks like I might even be able to switch back to the 6" drop and save the 8" for when I eventually bump to 40" tires. Planning on towing a vehicle this weekend, so we'll see how it goes. I'll post the finished pics attached to the truck later today.

I also eyeballed the brakes while doing the second axle. The brake wiring is rather thin and it was hanging off one of the backing plates. Looks like the shoes are just worn out, as I could still spin the hub while pulling them all the way out. Could be another easy fix.

I ended up having to raid your axles for u-bolts after all. I used the u-bolts from the 93 XJ's Chryco 8.25 on the front axle, but apparently Shift and Nyxis cut the ubolts on the 99 when removing the lift from it.

This was about midnight when I discovered i was going to need them. I had been working on the trailer outside the whole time, but ir was close to the garage and the house was shielding most of the neighborhood. The Ram was out in front of the house and elevated. I could hear the impact echoing off the other houses. :tonka:

Here's the finished pics. Its hooked up to the truck in these shots, so it may be good to go as-is. I had some shit in the truck and its only angled up slightly. A vehicle on it will probably put it straight with good tongue weight.

The second pic shows how f'd up that spliced-tube axle is. XJ4Life's axles both have brakes, so I'll measure them and possibly install them after I do the required hauling this weekend.
