Got the yota home today...

Allright I finally got the toyota home and in the garage I just wish I had the room to work on the damn thing.

Specs:

Bone stock 1980 toyota pickup

Plans:

Replace springs on all four corners
Check for weak spots on the frame and repair as necessary
Clean up the body
Replace all bushings
Repair the floor in the cab
Swap in the 1983 22R that came with it
and the 5 speed tranny
convert to cross over steering
Lift the body (1-3")
mate the transfer cases (eventually)
Build a flat bed (maybe)
Probably a ton of crap I am forgetting

I think I am going to start on the engine swap today but I have a few questions first. Perhaps I should ask at pirate or paruse the faq but here it is anyway. When I swap the engine should I do the engine and tranny seperately? As in pull the engine, drop the trans, seperate the ones that are going in and then bolt up the new trans, drop in the engine. I guess it would allow me to replace the clutch but will it make the process any easier or am I better off just swapping everything still bolted together?

take the trans off first or you will hate life. drop the crossmember to get at the top bolts of the trans (long extention) if you are changing transes do so when they are apart. any time the clutch is visable is a good time to have it done, don't forget to have the flywhee resurfaced.

Unfortunately I didn't get to tackle the engine swap on saturday like I had planned because I went to the wrong SOS to do the title swap (no saturday hours) so I toyed around with paint to clean it up a bit.

Now for my latest question. Did the rear springs change at all through the years, I just got my manual today but I don't think it's going to go in to depth on rear spring length and other stuff like that. I only want to replace one spring right now since it is broken and when I have the time, money and desire I will probably do the rear up front with f-150 springs in the rear. I haven't liked the things I've been hearing about the 63" chevys.
